In memory of Lyn McPherson

Tom McPherson embarked on a 6-month fitness journey, training towards the Half Iron-Man, which was held in Mooloolaba on the 13th of September. Toms ambition was to complete the Half Iron-Man but his main goal was to raise awareness and funds towards Ovarian Cancer research.

His reason for doing so was for his mum, Lyn McPherson. Lyn McPherson was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer New Year’s Eve 2008 and succumbed in March 2010.  Since then, the McPherson Family have raised thousands of dollars each year to support the Women’s Cancer Foundation, and in particular to fund the research nurses needed for ongoing clinical trials and laboratory research.

Tom exceeded beyond expectations, both in the Half Iron-Man as well as the amount raised. The event included a 1.9km swim, 90km ride and 21.1km run. Tom astonishingly completed the Half Iron-Man in 4hours and 57minutes and raised in excess of $7,500.00!

We thank Tom for his efforts and contributions to the cause and look forward to watching him tackle other events alike.

A quote from Tom:
‘I hope I’ve managed to inspire some people and spread the word of the WCF OCI by racing over the weekend and now that I have the teal tri uniform I’ll wear it in any future events that I participate in (already looking at other Half Iron-Mans to compete in next year).’
